Members belonging to the DMK, Congress and other opposition parties held a demonstration near the Mettupalayam bus stand on Monday condemning doctors’ negligent attitude towards patients in Mettupalayam Government Hospital.

“On September 2 night, a daily wage labourer, Samsudin, brought his nine-year-old daughter to the hospital for treatment. But even for half-an-hour no doctor attended the child who was suffering from chest pain. When Samsudin asked the doctor to attend to his daughter, the doctor asked him to take his daughter to a private hospital for treatment,” said S. Basha, General Secretary, Centre of Indian Trade Union.

The protesters raised slogans against the doctor’s attitude and urged the State Government to fill in the vacancies in hospital.

They also demanded the opening of women’s welfare building at the earliest and requested the authorities to maintain enough stock of medicines in the hospital.

More than 100 people, including women, participated in the demonstration.
