Constable attempts suicide; survives

Following the death of two constables, attached to Fourth Battalion of Tamil Nadu Special Police in Kovaipudur, by suicide, another constable has attempted commit suicide last night by slashing his wrist.

Trouble began when some constables and officers were cleaning up the premises around the temple within the police compound when Commandant Murthy reportedly raised his voice against Constable Abdul Salam. An upset Salam returned to his room and cut his left hand with a knife.

Hearing the screams, some constables from the adjacent rooms rushed to the spot and took the bleeding Salam to a nearby private hospital. He was sent to his native place Oothankarai in Krishnagiri district and is reportedly out of danger.

Less than two weeks ago, two constables of the battalion – Muthupandi and Selvaraj – had committed suicide.
