Cops asked to pay Rs27L relief to torture victim

The Kerala State Police Complaint Authority has ordered the Nooranad police in Kollam to give Rs 27 lakh as compenstation to one Aravindakshan, 37, for custodial torture.

The Noornad Sub Inspector and six civil police officers were held guilty for the torture.

The victim was taken into custody on March 12, 2014, in connection with an attack on a police team at Karimukom temple on March 8. The authority asked the government to pay immediately Rs 5 lakh to the victim who was an employee of the NSS High School, Chalassery. The rest of the amount has to be paid by the guilty police officials.
