Members of the CPI (ML) today urged the District Collector, T.N. Hariharan, to provide pattas for the land at Gokulam Colony in Papanaickenpudhur here.

(Around 52 families residing around that area have been demanding pattas for the land so that they could construct a house and reside there.)

In their petition, the members alleged that despite the Madras High Court ordering the district administration to provide pattas, nothing has happened so far. One of the residents, R. Radhakrishnan, had filed a petition in the court seeking its directive to the administration.

“The court gave eight-week time for the administration on March 16, 2015. But the order has not been obeyed so far by the officials here,” said S.M. Velmurugan, party member.

While former Collector Karunakaran had declared the area as Government poramboke land, the revenue department had claimed it was a water body. “The Court had endorsed the order passed by Karunakaran,” Velumurugan said.

“If the order is implemented, 52 families including that of R. Radhakrishnan will get pattas. If the administration fails this time also, we will file a contempt petition in the Madras High Court,” Velmurugan added.
