CPM protest against the rape and murder of Dalit woman

Thanjavur: The activists of CPM and AIDWA staged a demonstration in Thanjavur today condemning the recent rape and murder of Kalaiselvi, a 20-year-old Dalit, in Saliyamangalam village.

The demonstration was organized by Thanjavur district unit of CPM, and CPM district secretary Manokaran led the agitation. Among others, noted women’s right activist and CPM central committee member U. Vasuki, and CPM former district secretary, Neelamegam also participated.

The demonstrators demanded that all the accused involved in the heinous crime should be arrested and the family of the deceased should be given a compensation of Rs. 10 lakhs from the Chief Minister’s relief fund. They also appealed to the state government and police to take measures to immediately stop the sexual attacks on women in the state, and ensure their safety.
