Chennai: Delhi police on Monday booked AIADMK deputy general secretary and Sasikala’s nephew TTV Dinakaran on charges of bribery to get his party the two leaves symbol, according to a top police official.

Dinakaran has been accused of attempting to bribe Election Commission officials to get his party the symbol. Police said his close aide Sukesh Chandrasekar was arrested on Sunday night from a South Delhi hotel with Rs 1.3 crore which he was to give the poll officials as bribe in exchange for the symbol that was suspended a couple of weeks ago.

“Dinakaran has been booked for criminal conspiracy, personating a public servant and corruption after Chandrasekar disclosed his name during a late night police raid at the hotel,” the senior police officer said. The raid was on the basis of a tipoff.

Meanwhile, Dinakaran told the media in Chennai that he did not know anybody by name Sukesh Chandrasekar. “Somebody is scheming to destroy AIADMK,” he said, adding, “I will meet the allegation legally. If I am summoned by Delhi police I will meet it legally.”

He also said he would be meeting Sasikala in the Bengaluru jail and discus various political issues.

The AIADMK has remained divided since the death of its leader and former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa. Her close aide Sasikala was named the new party chief but landed in jail within weeks after the Supreme Court found her guilty of corruption.
