Deputy Speaker, Minister, MLAs tonsure heads

State Assembly Deputy Speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman and Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani were among 500 AIADMK workers who tonsured their heads in a ritual tribute to the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

The tonsuring of heads, and shaving of beards and moustaches were part of the observation of the 7th day of the death. The AIADMK men gathered at a water body behind Perur Patteeswarar Temple in the city for the ceremony. Prominent among those tonsured their heads were MLAs Aman Arjun, C Arukutty, Kanagarak, OK Chinnaraj, Arunkumar and Shanmugham.

After the tonsuring, they performed rituals for the departed soul and paid floral tributes to the portrait of the former party supremo, party sources said.

Food was distributed to over 10,000 people.
