Former AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran, appeared before Delhi police today in connection with the two leaves symbol bribery case.

He was served notice on April 19 by a Delhi police team which landed in Chennai. Earlier, an FIR was filed against Dinakaran, nephew of now-jailed VK Sasikala, on charges of bribing Election Commission officials.

Dinakaran, in his bid to redeem the two leaves symbol for his faction, allegedly employed middlemen for this. The Delhi police had busted the racket after an official who was hand-in-glove with Dinakaran was arrested. Two luxury cars and Rs1.3 crore in cash were also seized.

The frontline leaders of the two AIADMK factions, one led by O. Panneerselvam and the other by E Palanisamy, had decided to sideline both Sasikala and Dinakaran from the party affairs. Leaders of the two factions came together successfully to oust the duo. The factions had decided to bury the hatchet and work to reclaim the two leaves symbol for a unified entity.

The OPS faction had laid down a few conditions for merger, which included ouster of the `evil duo’ from the party and an official inquiry into the death of former Chief Minsiter J Jayalalitha, which was acceded Chief Minister E Palanisamy’s faction.

Dinakaran stepped down from the party deputy general secretary post on Wednesday claiming that he did `not want to be seen as a divisive force’.
