The Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP today alleged that certain divisive forces in the State were indulging in inciting the language and regional passion in the name of raising Cauvery river issue, which would affect the national sovereignty and integrity.

In a resolution adopted at its two-day state executive committee meeting held at Tirupur, the party lauded the Centre’s eagerness to initiate steps to get the rightful share of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu under the legal frame work, even as the State was taking all steps to protect its right.

“However, certain divisive forces, in the name of agitation for Cauvery water, were trying to incite regional and linguistic passion, which is condemnable,” it said.

The resolution also condemned the Congress Government in Karnataka for not releasing water to Tamil Nadu, despite the Supreme Court directive. “The then DMK Government did not file any objection for constructing the dams across Kabini, Hemavathi and Harangi in Karnataka, in 1970 and 1971, which has resulted the issue taking bigger dimension,” the party said.

Dwelling on the history of Cauvery, the meeting squarely blamed both the Congress and the DMK for the current situation, which has affected lakhs of farmers and “the people will not forget the betrayal by these parties”.

The meeting congratulated the Indian Army for carrying out surgical strikes and lauded the Prime Minister’s new crop insurance scheme.

In another resolution, the party wished a speedy recovery of the State Chief minister, Jayalalithaa.

Expressing concern over the reported infiltration of IS operatives in various districts of Tamil Nadu, the party blamed the State police and the intelligence for its failure, since these terrorist group has threatened to finish off the leaders of BJP and RSS and also to attack the RSS parade scheduled in November in the State.

The meeting also condemned the killing of Hindu Munnani activist, Sasikumar and the delay in nabbing the culprits, even as many leaders of Hindu outfits were targeted during the last one year.
