More than 200 members belonging to the DMK on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the Coimbatore Corporation in protest against Corporation for undertaking the exercise to reassess the property tax.

Led by Singanallur MLA N. Karthik and Coimbatore North District Secretary M. Muthusamy, they raised slogans against the civic body for not taking any steps to control the spread of Dengue in the city.

“The Corporation’s decision to revise the tax will affect the people. It collecting Garbage Tax but still heaps of garbage is found in every ward. Water tax is being collected, but water is being supplied only once in 15 days in all the 100 wards. Why should they collect tax when they are not providing any amenities to the people,” Karthik said.

The members urged the authorities to clear the garbage and to clean the drains at the earliest. “If the Corporation fails to initiate steps in this regard, the DMK would join hands with all political parties and stage a protest,” he added.
