A special food drive meant to help cops on duty following the demise of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was organised by Food Bank Coimbatore at VOC Park today.

Around 594 food packets, and 183 kg of fruits and snacks were distributed to police personnel on duty and to needy people.

Food Bank Coimbatore, along with other NGOs like Wild Wing Trust, Oosai, Pasumai desam and Coimbatore Blood Donor Association, came together for this programme, in which all the food was prepared by people residing in different parts of city and collected from their homes by volunteers.

The food donation drive was posted on Facebook at 8.45 am and by 11.30 am, 350 food packets were confirmed. “This drive was a success as everybody extended their help in whatever way they could,” said Vaishnavi Balaji, founder of Food bank Coimbatore.
