Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, Coimbatore, on Tuesday launched a week-long Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) awareness campaign to mark World Heart Day, with the initiative focusing on the importance of timely intervention during sudden cardiac emergencies.

The awareness programme was inaugurated near the CSI Church at Race Course in the presence of Dr.Sundar Ramakrishnan, Managing Trustee, Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, and Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, I.A.S.,along with senior hospital officials and medical professionals.

Organised in association with First Heart Foundations Network, founded by Dr.T.K.Saravanan, the campaign is being conducted under the World Heart Day theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat.” It aims to educate the public about sudden cardiac arrest, early recognition of cardiac emergencies and the importance of initiating CPR without delay.

As part of the inaugural event, students of Allied Health Sciences presented a mime and awareness skit demonstrating how immediate recognition of sudden cardiac arrest and prompt CPR can help sustain circulation until professional medical assistance arrives.

The week-long campaign, which will continue until October 4, will take CPR awareness to several public locations across Coimbatore, including Race Course, Coimbatore International Airport, Coimbatore Railway Station, Semmozhi Poonga, Broadway, Fun Mall and PRS Ground.

Trained students from Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences will conduct demonstrations and hands-on awareness sessions to familiarise members of the public with basic CPR techniques and encourage them to respond promptly during cardiac emergencies.

Speaking at the programme, Dr.Sundar Ramakrishnan stressed the need to take life-saving awareness beyond hospital premises and into the community. He said basic knowledge of CPR could help people respond more confidently to emergencies at homes, workplaces and public places.

Sri Ramakrishna Hospital said its cardiac care services are supported by its Departments of Cardiology and Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, specialised emergency cardiac services, experienced clinical teams and advanced medical technology.

The hospital also stated that it is the first hospital in Tamil Nadu with a Comprehensive Chest Pain Center accredited by the American Heart Association, reflecting its focus on structured and coordinated care for patients presenting with chest pain and suspected acute cardiac conditions.

The campaign will continue across Coimbatore through October 4, reinforcing the message “Don’t Miss a Beat” and promoting greater public awareness, early response and preparedness during sudden cardiac emergencies.
