As part of annual Coimbatore Vizha (Coimbatore Festival), an open-top double decker bus arrived from Mumbai here on Friday. The bus will run through Coimbatore during the eight-day festival.

Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan and Commissioner of Police K. Periaiah were among the dignitaries present during the inaugural run.

The ‘Double Takkar’ bus that was used to take the winning IPL team around Mumbai will be another highlight of the 10th edition of Vizha. Chairman of Vizha and local chapter of Young Indians S. Prasanna Krishna said that team had come up with this idea about six months. “While every edition had witnessed the participation of a celebrity, this time around the bus itself is a celebrity,” he said.

With a seating capacity of 42, the colourfully decorated bus will start its journey from the VOC Park and run in pre-determined routes for trips that last from 60 to 90 minutes from 9 a.m.to 8 p.m., he said.

“The bus offers a great way to soak in the sounds and sights of Coimbatore and. those sitting on top can get a 360° panoramic view of the city,” Prasanna Krishna said.
