Coimbatore : A 68-year old woman was found murdered in a vacant house in Sowripalayam in the city late last night, police said today.

Mary Angel, a retired nurse, was staying with her husband in the house and a woman approached her seeking space for rent last night, police said.

The husband grew anxious as Mary did not return after she had gone with them to show the portion and hence he went in search, only to find Mary lying in a pool of blood with slit throat and a five sovereign gold chain and her mobile phone missing.

Hearing the screams, the neighbours rushed to the house and informed police, who rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

A woman, along with another person, had been moving around the area seeking a space on rent for the last couple of days and police are investigating if the murder could be their handiwork.
