Even as the Election Commission released the draft voters’ list on Thursday, way ahead of the November deadline, the members of the DMK claimed that there were many irregularities in the released list.
They also alleged that there were many additions to the new list and questioned the timing of the release, months ahead of time. “Now that this list is out, there will be another list released ahead of the municipal elections. This would only lead to confusions,” said A. Natchimuthu, the DMK’s South Coimbatore District Secretary.
He further claimed that names of deceased persons have also been included, adding that in some cases, one name has been repeated three times or more.
“The same thing happened during the Assembly elections too. The Election Commission admitted that additional names were added. This is one of the reasons why the DMK lost,” he claimed.
The members of the DMK suggested that a clear draft voters’ list should be released sooner.
Meanwhile, a total of 28,35,174 names have come up in the new voters’ list, in which 14,09,840 are males, 14,25,119 are females, and 215 belong with the third gender.
The list has seen an addition of 1925 new voters.
