Representatives from various political parties requested the Election Commission to sort out confusions pertaining to deletions and additions in the new voters’list.

At the election review meeting at the District Collectorate here on Monday the Election Commission of India had organized a review meeting seeking queries from the political parties to sort out booth level voter identity issues before announcing the voters’ list for the 2016 assembly elections. The meeting was chaired by J.K.Rao, Under Secretary of the Election Commission of India.

“When a voter is deleted from the list, a proper death certificate should be provided to the commission so as to begin with proceedings, proper verifications should also be made while adding a member,” one of the representatives said.

They also requested the officials to sort out jumping voter issue where members of the same family are forced to vote in different booths because of registration issues. “Even relocations should be identified properly and the relocated voter should be given proper booths,” another member said.

Fund allocation to booths was also a major concern for the representatives as they said that same amount cannot be allocated to every booth as the number of voters vary in each booth even if it comes under single constituency. The members also stated that proper verifications should be made before appointing booth agents to avoid malpractices.

They further added that genuine receipt should be given to booth agents after registration to avoid fake ones.
District Collector Archana Patnaik, District Revenue Officer T.Christi Raj, Selection Officer Prabal Aswathy, Assistant Collector (Training) Grace L Pachuau and members from various political parties attended the meeting.
