Elephant kills 60-yr-old woman in Coimbatore outskirts

Coimbatore: A 60-year old woman was killed by an elephant in a tribal hamlet near Chadivayal on the outskirts in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said Nanjammal of Pottapathi village had come out of the house to answer nature’s call around 2.30 am and took to the heels on noticing a wild elephant in front of her house.

The elephant chased and caught hold of her and hurled her down, resulting in serious injuries to her.

Hearing the trumpeting sound and also screams of Nanjammal, neighbours raised an alarm and managed to scare away the pachyderm, they said.

They took Nanjammal, who sustained serious injuries on her leg, to the government hospital here. However, she died on the way.
