Engineer in Tirupur gets 5-year jail for taking bribe

Coimbatore : A judicial magistrate court in nearby Tirupur on Thursday sentenced an assistant engineer in the city corporation to undergo imprisonment for five years for accepting bribe some six years ago.

Ramalingam (52) was held by the sleuths of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing while accepting Rs 10,000 from one Loganathan for giving approval for a building plan in August 2012.

Chief judicial magistrate S Jagannathan on Thursday sentenced Ramalingam to undergo five years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.

The accused was brought and lodged in the Central Jail here.
