Exporters welcome constitution of textile consultative committee

Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) today thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa for the announcement on formation of the State Textile Consultative Committee, a long pending request of the association.

The committee headed by State textile minister would help for the growth of the whole textile industry including apparel and also help to address the textile related issues, TEA President, A. Shaktivel said in a letter to Jayalalithaa.

The association also thanked her for extending State Government’s financial support of up to 25 per cent in project estimates under the scheme for integrated textile processing development of the Centre, which is the major requirement for the improvement made in the processing sector, a weakest link in the textile value chain.

Tirupur garment industry growth has returned to normalcy only after the announcement of Rs.200 crore interest free loan offered to the Tirupur CETPs immediately after she assumed office as Chief Minister, he said.

The garment sector was possessing more than 80 per cent of units under SME categories and an announcement on unveiling of new MSME policy would pave way for the growth of garment sector in Tamil Nadu including garment exports, Shaktivel said.
