False ceiling in rly retiring room caves in

Thanjavur: Three occupants of the retiring room at Thanjavur railway junction had a miraculous escape when the room’s false-ceiling caved in early this morning.

According to sources, there are eight rooms just above platform number one in Thanjavur railway junction. A Coimbatore-based engineer along with his family had stayed in the first room last night. The false ceiling of the room caved in unexpectedly. Luckily, no one was hurt.

No case was registered as the occupants did not prefer any written complaint but vacated the room immediately after the incident.

Wall collapse

An agriculture worker and his family members had a lucky escape when the wall of his mud-house caved in near Papanasam early this morning. Ganapathi, 68, an agriculture worker of Vazhuthur village, and other family members were sleeping when a portion of the wall collapsed due to heavy rain.

Luckily, no one was injured. Revenue and police officials rushed to the spot and inspected the extent of damage.
