First ever jallikattu to be held in Coimbatore on January 28

COIMBATORE : The stage is set for the conduct of the first ever Jallikattu, the traditional brave sport of Tamil Nadu in the city on January 28, with the groundbreaking ceremony for laying Vadivasal, the gate through which bulls are sent to the arena, performed today at Chettipalayam on the outskirts.

Performing pooja for constructing vadivasal, Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani said that this will be an historic event, as it is for the first time the brave traditional sport is happening in the city.

The event is being jointly organised by the District Administration and Omkar Foundation and all the necessary arrangements are being made for the event, the convenor, Selvam said.

Stating that 750 bulls are expected to participate and 550 bull-tamers have registered for the event, Selvam said that a temporary gallery to accommodate to about 5,000 people is getting ready in the sprawling 25 acres.
