Coimbatore: City-based NGO Food Bank Coimbatore, out on a mission to eradicate hunger, provided an aged and physically challenged woman with a tricycle as part of observing World Hunger Day.

Eswari, near Vadavalli in the City, used to go around the streets begging on an old tricycle which she lost in the recent heavy rain in Coimbatore. This made movement difficult and Food Bank volunteers stepped in to give her a new tricycle which she now uses to sell spinach and earn a living. “As a part of the World Hunger Day we decided to give her a new tricycle and we saw her using this and riding back home happily, NGO founder Vaishnavee Balaji.

Volunteer Kalaivani Rajkumar adds: “I have seen this woman begging usually and our NGO did provide her food a few times when we saw her crying on the streets for alms as she could not move. I then spoke with my organisation to give her a new tricycle which was sponsored by Sumathi Rajan.”

“Eswari was initially begging for money to repair her old tricycle. This new tricycle has made her really happy. What gives us more joy is that now she has started a living on her own.”
