Former Anna University VC R Radhakrishnan was today handed a five-year prison sentence in connection with a case of irregularities in the purchase of furniture and also for accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption registered the case against him for reportedly taking commission for the purchase of furniture in 2008 and 2009, and also for possessing assets worth Rs 1.37 crore in his and wife’s name.
Radhakrishnan, who was suspended from his post, was arrested in August and lodged in the Central Jail here.
The case was in the Vigilance Court and the special Judge KR Madurasekaran sentenced Radharishnan and imposed a penalty of Rs 1.10 lakh.
