Kozhikode: Former Vice President Hamid Ansari has landed in a controversy for attending a function organised by Popular Front of India (PFI) which has been facing several anti-national charges.

The BJP has flayed Ansari for taking part in the event on Saturday organised by the women’s wing of PFI here. BJP spokesman P Raghunath has demanded an apology from the former VP.

It is highly condemnable that Ansari, who was Vice President for ten years, has attended a programme organised by an outfit which is under the scanner of NIA and intelligence agencies, he said.

Ansari’s remarks that Muslims are not safe in India makes things more controversial, he said.

The event was originally scheduled to be held in Calicut University premises. But the permission was cancelled due to PFI’s presence.

The Vice Chancellor K Mohammad Basheer and A B Moideenkutty, Head of Arabic department boycotted the function.

PFI is facing charges in several anti national activities including chopping off the palm of a faculty member of a college T J Joseph accusing him of blasphemy.

It is also involved in Love Jihad cases and the police in Kerala have declared it a fundamentalist outfit.
