A four-year-old girl was fatally run over by her school van on the school premises.

Nandhini, studying LKG in a private school in Budalur, was trying to pick up her notebook that fell down. The driver, Ramachandran, without the child, turned the vehicle bringing her under the wheels. She died on the spot due to severe head injuries. She was rushed to the primary health centre at Budalur, where she was declared ‘brought dead’.

Nandhini’s parents, relatives and residents of Kamaraj Nagar in Orathur village near Thanjavur, where Nadhini resides, blocked the traffic at the four road junction at Budalur, demanding the immediate arrest of Ramachandran. Traffic was disrupted for about one-and-a-half hours. Revenue and police officials rushed to the spot and persuaded them to disperse.
