A free skill development centre aimed at empowering economically disadvantaged youth and enhancing their employment prospects has been launched in Udumalpet.

The “SKP Sunandha Rammohan Skill Centre” has been established to provide vocational training to young individuals aged between 18 and 27 years, who have completed at least Class 10 and belong to families with an annual income below ₹3 lakh. The initiative focuses on equipping youth with industry-relevant skills at no cost.

The centre offers training programs in the rapidly growing logistics sector, including courses such as EXIM Executive, Supply Chain Associate, and Warehouse Associate. These programs range from 45 to 90 days, and trainees are not required to pay any fees.
This initiative is supported by the Mahalakshmi–Muthuramalingam Charitable Trust, founded by Dr. M. Rammohan, a US-based doctor originally from Karur.

The centre has been established as a gesture of giving back to his native land and to create sustainable employment opportunities for rural youth. The project was initiated based on the recommendation of Dr. Rajendra Prasad (USA), with the support of Dr. V.G. Mohan Prasad, Chairman of Sri Kannika Parameswari Educational Institutions, along with its trustees and members. The centre is functioning within the SKP School campus.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mohan Prasad said that skill-based education would empower youth with confidence and ensure stable employment. He added that the centre would open new avenues for rural youth and plans are underway to introduce more courses in the future.
The training is aligned with the standards of the Logistics Sector Skill Council (LSC), and participants will receive Skill India certification after third-party assessment.

Placement assistance will also be provided across India, with entry-level salaries starting at around ₹15,000 per month and increasing with experience.
The initiative is supported by Redington Foundation and the Logistics Sector Skill Council of India, with additional backing from the India Development and Relief Fund (USA) and Rotary Club of Madras.

Industry expert J.V. Rao, former professor of Anna University, serves as an advisor to the centre. The operations are overseen by Rotarian Sairam, while Mr. Gopalan, Deputy Secretary of the educational trust, acts as the centre’s coordinator.

Local professionals and volunteers, including IT expert Ramalingam from Pollachi and team members Vinoth, Bala, and Gautham, are actively contributing to training and operations.
The centre is expected to play a significant role in bridging the gap between education and employment by aligning training with industry needs.
