Futile bid to rob SBI Annur branch

Coimbatore: Burglars made a futile attempt to rob an SBI branch near Annur in the district, some 40 km from here, in the early hours of today.

The robbers managed to gain entry into the Kemmanaickenpalayam branch of the bank and strong room after breaking open the locks, but fled the scene when the alarm attached to the locker rang, police said.

Police rushed and inspected the spot and took the CCTV camera footage to identify the robbers. Quoting bank officials, police said there was Rs 18 lakh in cash and nearly 800 gm of gold ornaments in the strong room.
