COIMBATORE: A gang of seven, involved in several crime, including burglary and chain snatching incidents in the guise of police personnel, was arrested in the city on Thursday.

The modus operandi of the gang was to stop people, moving in lonely places and in the pretext of checking, claiming themselves as police personnel, take away the gold ornaments, police said.

Based on a complaint by one Ramesh Kumar that he was relieved of 2.5 sovereign of gold chain at knife point by the gang on Wednesday, a special police team was formed to nab them.

Accordingly, the team involved in vehicle checking, stopped a car and a motor cycle bearing Maharashtra registration number and found some gold ornaments with seven persons.

Hailing from north India, the gang said to have involved in eight burglary cases in the city and four in various parts of Tamil Nadu, they said.
