Coimbatore : Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit will inaugurate the 50th year celebrations of Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA). on October 29 here.

Codissia was established in 1969 as a small industries association with 38 members and now has over 6,600 to become one of the largest associations for micro, small and medium enterprises in India, association president R Ramamurthy told reporters here on Friday.

He said Codissia a non-profit organisation that works for industrial development, economic growth and prosperity of the region, adding it was a member in the advisory and consultative of Central and State Government departments and the national board of MSME.

Highlighting the 50-year journey, Ramaurthy said recently the Centre had awarded the first defence innovation centre by the Ministry of Defence under Innovation for Defence Excellence of Defence Innovation Organisation to it and is in the process of setting it up.

Codissia was also bringing out a skill development centre which would be a centre of excellence in its industrial park and impart skill to unskilled labourers and absorb them in its member industries, Ramamurthy added.
