Green activists are up in arms against the chopping down of trees at Saibaba Colony on Tuesday. They sought the intervention of district administration and corporation officials to take necessary against the tree fellers. At least two or three trees have been felled, say the activists.

According to Urvashi Lunia, a resident, Saibaba Colony is famous for its lush green trees on both sides of the roads. She used to walk on the Alagesan Road everyday on her way to the clinic. “To my utter shock, I found two huge trees cut just because a crack had developed on the wall. I really do not know if they had the required permission to cut the trees. A week ago, they removed all the large branches. Now the trees are gone,” she said.

Green activist K. Mohanraj said the cutting of tree on Alagesan Road in Saibaba Colony was akin to daylight robbery. “No action was taken by the Coimbatore Corporation. We hope the Commissioner Vijay Karthikeyan takes action against the tree fellers,” he said.

The images of the chopped down trees were circulated on the social media.
