Green Buildings to take over Coimbatore!

The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and CII – Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) organized a special training program on green buildings in the city. Speaking at the meeting, the Corporation Commissioner, Dr. K. Vijay
Karthikeyan said that Coimbatore should emerge as a trendsetting green city for others to emulate.

The Commissioner also stressed upon the need for proper management of construction waste, and on the importance of recycling. Acknowledging the role that IGBC had played in creating more than 3 billion square feet of green building in the country, he said that Coimbatore Corporation is eager to work with the building council in the city.

India is ranked second in the world in terms of green building cover. C.R. Swaminathan, the former Chairman, CII – Southern Region, revealed that IGBC has plans to increase the green footprint to 10 billion square feet by 2022.
