Summer rains continue to batter Tamil Nadu almost non-stop since Monday night with the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal intensifying into a deep depression. The weather department has forecasted more rains for the next two days
According to the Meteorology Department, the low pressure area became a depression today and is located around 250 kilometres south-east of Chennai. They expect it to move north-west along north Tamil Nadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next 48 hours.
Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea, with local cautionary signal number three, and section signal number four hoisted along the coast of Tamil Nadu and Pudhucherry.
Under the influence of the depression, heavy rain would occur at north coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the next 24 hours.
In the past 24 hours, Thiruvarur’s Nannilam saw rainfall of 140 mm, with Chembarambakkam receiving 120 mm rains.
