Hindu Munnani functionary succumbs to burns

Anand Kumar, a Hindu Munnani functionary, who attempted suicide through self-immolation four days ago, succumbed to burns today.

Anand Kumar, 30, Munnani secretary of Mettur Block in Podanur in the city, had set himself ablaze, apprehending arrest in connection with the violent incidents during the funeral procession of the organisation spokesperson C Sivakumar, on September 23 here said.

However, relatives and others managed to put off the fire and admitted him to the government hospital here with 60 per cent burns on October 4. He died this afternoon, police said.

Anand feared arrest, as the police had reportedly made inquiries about him among his colleagues during the course of investigation.

Even as the body has been sent to post-mortem, police has been posted at the hospital to prevent any eventualities.
