Chennai: As controversy shrouds the suicide of Ramkumar, the lone suspect in the techie Swathi murder case, the Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) today issued notice to the state police for conducting an inquiry into the cause of death by the accused in the prison.

The Commission, after taking suo-motu cognizance of the case, has directed the Additional Director General of Police, Investigation Division, to conduct a senior-level inquiry and submit a comprehensive report within two weeks.

Meanwhile, the Madras High Court has instructed the authorities to conduct Ramkumar’s post-mortem, in the presence of government doctors, following a petition by the deceased’s advocate. The court however has rejected the demand for a CBI investigation.

Ramkumar committed suicide by biting into a live wire at Puzhal Prison on Sunday evening. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced “brought dead” by the doctors.
