“I will not be intimidated” : Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram

Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Monday lashed out against the Enforcement Directorate for “cleverly skirting around the issue of its jurisdiction in the case which has been quashed by the special judge.”

The ED, the Former Finance Minister charged, was spreading a crazy mixture of falsehoods and conjecture, the proof of which is in its press statement. The ED is sniffing into the alleged kickbacks received by former finance minister’s son Karti Chidambaram for facilitating FIPB clearances to projects when his father was the key minister at the centre.

“The press note is intended to intimidate me and to silence my voice. I will not be intimidated,” Chidambaram said in a hard-hitting statement.

The FIPB officials were examined by the CBI and they have affirmed that the FIPB, comprising secretaries of GoI, correctly approved and recommended the case, and placed the minutes before the Finance Minister (Who was the competent authority) for approval.

The approval was granted in normal course, Chidambaram asserted.As and when an attachment order is served, suitable action will be taken in due course, the former finance minister who has been scathing in his criticism of demonetization and what he called the hasty implementation of GST.
