The local chapter of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed the Tamil Nadu budget, and for proposing necessary amendments to the Tamil Nadu Fiscal Responsibility Act 2003.
In a statement, the president of ICCI, D. Nandakumar welcomed the Finance Minister’s observation that even though the neighbouring states had increased the sales tax on petroleum and diesel to make up for the losses in sales tax, Tamil Nadu has not resorted to such a move in the interest of people of the state.
The chamber has also welcomed the implementation of the Athikadavu-Avinashi Scheme as an irrigation, ground water recharging, and drinking water scheme. Orders have been issued to commence the preliminary works immediately.
“On behalf of the people of this region, we thank the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for this kind gesture,” he said, adding that the allocation of Rs.400 crores for Smart Cities programmes and Rs.500 crores for AMRUT were welcome moves.
