One man commission appointed to probe into Somanur Bus stand roof collapse, which claimed five lives, began the inquiry on Friday.

Accompanied by senior officials and engineers, Gagandeep Singh Bedi visited the accident site and carried out inspection of the debris and type of construction carried out at the bus stand, official sources said.

The public are asked to submit their petitions with regard to the mishap to the commission till late in the evening at Karumathampatti panchayat office, they said.

Bedi, who has already collected some documents pertaining to the mishap from the district and police officials, is likely to submit his report to the Government in two months, the sources said.

Meanwhile, BJP workers, led by G.K. Nagaraj met and told Bedi that the main reason for the collapse was the usage of under-quality materials and also using more sand and lesser cement.

The workers urged the commission to not not to spare the guilty and sought to recommend to provide government job to the family member of the deceased, Nagaraj said in a release.

Some members of the public also blamed the construction materials for the collapse, despite the government allotting rs.50 lakh last year for the maintenance.
