Jayalalithaa will leave for New Delhi next week on a two-day trip, to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. This will be her first visit after returning to power. She had previously visited New Delhi in June 2014, to meet President Pranab Mukherjee.
The Chief Minister will submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister, regarding issues of the state and seek financial aid and cooperation from the centre. High on the priority list is the Cauvery water dispute.
Also to be discussed is the Sri Lankan Navy attacks on the Indian fishermen, and the disputed Katchatheevu Island.
The BJP will utilize this opportunity to seek AIADMK’s support in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha to pass some crucial bills.
