Political rumour mills are working overtime wondering about the outcome of Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s visit to Delhi to meet with the Prime Minister on June 14. Many are convinced that the meeting is more than a routine one, as both the AIADMK and the BJP are expected to forge a much-talked-about and anticipated alliance.

Though no statements in this regard have come from the state BJP leaders, those in Delhi are reportedly expecting the alliance to go their way as it would help the party gain the support they desperately need in Rajya Sabha, which had always haunted the party.

The AIADMK has 4 elected Rajya Sabha members, which can help the BJP gain an upper hand over the Congress-led UPA, and clear some of its chronically-delayed bills like the one on GST.

The meeting comes just when the rift in the NDA alliance is becoming hard to cover up for the BJP, with allies Telugu Desam and Shiv Sena showing signs of rebellion.

While the BJP has its own list of things to be gained, the AIADMK too is looking forward for the support of the Central Government in issues like the Sri Lankan navy conflicts, and funds from the centre.

Both the parties have had cordial relationships in the past. They were allies in the 1998 Lok Sabha polls. Jaya and Modi are good buddies, with both attending the swearing in ceremonies of each other in 2012 and 2011 respectively.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to visit New Delhi on June 14, and return the same day meeting the Prime Minister Apart from the AIADMK, BJP is also wooing the Trinamool Congress to join their alliance, as the latter has good representations in both the houses of the Parliament.
