The 33rd Convocation of Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences (Deemed-to-be University) was held on Saturday at the DGS Dhinakaran Auditorium on the university campus, where Chancellor Dr. Paul Dhinakaran conferred degrees on graduating students and urged them to become job creators in the era of Artificial Intelligence.

The ceremony began with the university prayer, followed by a welcome address by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Elijah Blessing. R. Velusamy, President – Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., and Managing Director of Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd., Chennai, attended as the chief guest and delivered the convocation address.

Addressing the graduates, Velusamy encouraged students to face challenges with confidence and emerge as leaders contributing to society. Stressing that learning is a lifelong journey, he called on graduates to leverage innovation and technology to solve real-world problems and said India should aspire not only to use technology but also to create it. He highlighted the importance of talent, integrity, compassion and continuous learning.

In his address, Chancellor Dr. Paul Dhinakaran congratulated the graduates on their achievement and urged them to uphold the values of discipline, integrity and humanity they had learned at Karunya. Emphasising the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence across every sector, he advised students to continuously upgrade their AI knowledge while striving to become entrepreneurs and employment generators rather than job seekers.

He also expressed gratitude to parents for their sacrifices and support, describing the graduates’ success as a shared achievement of their families. He wished the students success, good health and wisdom in serving society and the nation.

As part of their social responsibility initiative, graduating students donated wheelchairs and a three-wheeled scooter to persons with disabilities.
The Chancellor’s Awards were presented to Lettishia Nimsy (B.Tech Biomedical Engineering), Aaron Ande (B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering – AI & ML), Joshina (M.Tech VLSI Design), Aishwarya (M.Sc Forensic Science) and Mithra (B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture).

Earlier in the ceremony, R. Velusamy was conferred an honorary doctorate in recognition of his leadership and contributions to the automotive industry. The convocation was attended by graduates along with their parents and family members
