Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS), through the Department of Visual Communication and the Kumaraguru Global Language Centre (KGLC), successfully hosted the third edition of Bastille Day 2026, one of South India’s leading Indo–French academic and cultural celebrations, in collaboration with the French Institute in India (IFI), Alliance Française de Madras – Coimbatore Centre, Broadway Cinemas, Qube Cinema, and École Intuit Lab, Paris.

This year’s celebration brought together more than 1,000 students, educators, and cultural enthusiasts through a unique convergence of language, cinema, creativity, and intercultural exchange, reaffirming KCLAS as a growing hub for Indo–French academic and cultural engagement.

The celebrations commenced on 21 July 2026 at the Kumaraguru campus with 275 student participants representing 20 schools. A defining highlight of Bastille Day 2026 was the KCLAS French Film Festival, on 22 July 2026 organized at Broadway Cinemas – Coimbatore’s first student-focused international French film festival hosted in a commercial multiplex cinema with the support of Mr. Mathieu Bejot, Attaché for Film, Audiovisual and Digital Content, French Institute in India.

The festival provided students with the opportunity to experience world cinema in a professional theatrical environment while fostering a deeper appreciation for international storytelling. Screenings of Les Parapluies de Cherbourg and Furcy for audiences aged 18 years and above, while Calamity and Astérix et Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre were screened for school students aged 12 years and above.
