More than 180 doctors from across Tamil Nadu came together under one roof to discuss treatment and cure for various liver diseases and disorders at the national conference organized by the Kovai Medical Centre & Hospital (KMCH), titled ‘Understanding the Liver.’
Coimbatore Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Vijay Karthikeyan declared the conference open. Dr. Nalla G. Palaniswami, Chairman of KMCH, in his address pointed out the need for making healthcare facilities available to all at affordable costs. “KMCH was started on these lines and we will continue to make quality healthcare facilities available to people of all segments. I wish this conference, the first of its kind in this part of our country, a grand success,” Dr. Nalla G. Palaniswami said.
More patients are opting for liver transplant as treatment for end-stage liver disease. Reading out the annual report of KMCH Liver Institute, Dr. Arul Raj, Consultant Hepatologist, pointed out that in the past 15 months, the department had successfully conducted 39 transplants.
