The Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital would charge no extra cost for Advanced Robotic Surgery.

The announcement comes after a 54-year-old patient was treated for Cancer of the Thoracic Oesophagus. “The patient was on Chemo Radiotherapy and the team headed by Dr. A. Ganesan performed robotic total Oesophagectomy plus 2 field lymphadenectomy using the daVinci Robotic System,” said a release from KMCH.

The patient would recuperate within a few days of the surgery and carry out the daily chores within a week. The surgery further would not make any external scar and the incision is smaller than the minimal invasive surgery, the release added.

Though initially it was told that surgeries using the system would be costly than the minimal invasive surgery, the hospital management clarified that no extra charges would be collected.

The system is currently being used for surgeries including Fundoplication, Heller’s Myotomy, D2 Gastrectomy, Pancreatectomy including Whipple resection, Colectomies, Rectal cancer surgeries avoiding colostomy, Radical hysterectomy and Bariatric surgeries.

More than 35 surgeries have been performed in the last 50 days at KMCH using the system, the release added.
