Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH), a leader in healthcare excellence since 1990, is proud to announce a significant landmark in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders. The hospital has successfully completed its 50th Cryoablation procedure for Atrial Fibrillation (AF).

With this achievement, KMCH joins an Elite group of only five hospitals nationwide to reach this milestone. Notably, KMCH is the only hospital in Tamil Nadu outside of Chennai to offer and achieve this level of success with Cryoablation technology.

Advancing Heart Health with Cryoablation

Atrial Fibrillation is a significant public health concern, affecting up to 10% of individuals in their 80s. If left untreated, it can lead to blood clots, increasing the risk of ischemic stroke by three to five times.

To combat these risks, KMCH utilizes state-of-the-art Cryoablation. During the procedure a cryoballoon is inserted through a small incision in the groin. The balloon is advanced to the left atrium and inflated at the opening of the pulmonary vein. Cold energy (nitrous oxide) freezes the tissue to create a scar. This scarring stops the transmission of chaotic electrical signals that cause AF.

*Comprehensive Care & Accessibility*

The KMCH Center of Excellence for Atrial Fibrillation offers a holistic approach, including personalized plans to manage blood pressure, obesity, and sleep apnea; Remote, using mobile apps and wearables to track heart rhythms in real-time and Telemedicine – virtual consultations to ensure consistent care for patients outside of Coimbatore.

Congratulating the team on this occasion, Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami, Chairman and Managing Director, KMCH, said: “Reaching the 50th Cryoablation milestone is a testament to KMCH’s unwavering commitment to bringing world-class medical technology to the people of India. Since our inception in 1990, our goal has been to provide healthcare excellence that rivals global standards. This achievement by our AF Clinic underscores our position as a pioneer in cardiac electrophysiology.”

Dr. Arun Palaniswami, Executive Director, KMCH, in his message congratulated Dr. Lawrance Jesuraj and the entire interdisciplinary team at the Center of Excellence for Atrial Fibrillation. Completing 50 successful procedures is not just a number; it represents 50 lives improved through precise, minimally invasive technology. We remain dedicated to expanding access to these life-saving treatments for patients across Tamil Nadu and beyond.”

“Cryoablation is a safe and effective treatment that stops the transmission of chaotic electrical signals, allowing the heart to return to its natural rhythm” said Dr. Lawrance Jesuraj, Interventional Cardiologist, KMCH.
