The controversial folk-singer Kovan was on Monday arrested by the Tamil Nadu police on sedition charges for organising a protest against the arrest and attack of JNU Student Union President Kanhaiya Kumar in Chennai.
Police said, Kovan along with over 50 persons belonging to several student’s organisations, gathered at Shastri Bhavan and shouted slogans against the BJP-led government in the Centre, demanding the immediate release of Kanhaiya.
When they tried to block the road, police detained the protesters and took them into custody.
It may be recalled that Kovan was arrested last year too for sedition for allegedly referring to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in a song in his campaign against the State government’s liquor policy.
Later, he was released on bail.
