The charred body of a 38-year old woman professor with slit throat was found in her house in Irugur on the outskirts today.
Latha was working as a professor in the Government Arts College in nearby Tirupur and staying with her four-year old daughter, after her husband left her some months ago. She would drop off her child at her parents’ house daily before going to college, police said.
As the front door of Latha’s house was found closed and she was not seen outside for long in the morning, a girl from the neighbourhood called out to her. Receiving no response, the girl opened the front door and was shocked to see smoke coming from the bedroom and the charred body of Latha lying there.
On receiving information, police rushed to the spot with finger print experts and a sniffer dog. They suspect that miscreants might have entered the house in the early hours, slit Latha’s throat and then burnt the body with kerosene. Further investigations are on.
