A leopard was found dead at Arnattukadu near Thuvaipathi hamlet in Anakatti on Thursday. A cow was also found dead near the carcass of the three-year-old leopard.
“Initially we thought the leopard would have died following a fight with the cow. Its body had injury marks caused by horns,” officials said. However, sources said the leopard could have been poisoned by the locals as they would have felt its presence would be risky for cattle.
Forest officials said it was for the first time they noticed the presence of a leopard in the area.
The post mortem was conducted by Forest Veterinarian Dr. N.S. Manoharan in the presence of District Forest Officer S. Ramabasubramaniam.
