Aishwariam Social Welfare Organisation and Resource Training Centre in Thudiyalur offers training in various vocational courses for children, men and women from the economically weaker sections of society free of cost. Since this centre was founded in 2006 it has trained more than 9,000 children, men and women.

S. Joel Santhiyakumar, who runs this NGO, says that the centre is equipped with various facilities like a tailoring lab and computer lab among others and offers training in more than 10 such programmes. Each batch is trained for 560 hours and 72 days. Students include school dropouts, those suffering mental disorders, women who are widowed, single parents, and tuberculosis patients among others. The aim of this centre is to train them and make them independent so that they have a source of income.

A time table is followed and those who register for this programme are trained in computers, tailoring, jewellery making and crafting jewellery out of terracotta. This centre functions like any other educational institution where classes are scheduled between Monday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Its founder tells us that he has employed seven full time staff to train the students who have registered for the programme. For those students who are in need of personal care and attention while attending the programme, a volunteer is assigned.

Those who are interested in making a contribution for the centre can contact Santhiyakumar at 98945-53392.
