Upset over the derogatory remarks by the landlady over delayed rent, a man has committed suicide by consuming poisonous pesticides in Coimbatore.

Loganathan was working as a watchman in a temple and was staying at a rented house, for a monthly rent of Rs. 5,000 in R.S. Puram. As he was not able to pay the full rent this month, and only paid Rs. 3,000, the landlady Padmavathy reportedly abused him and asked him ‘to look for some other money making job’, police said.

The owner also reportedly disconnected the power and water supply to the house.

Dejected over the insults, 48-year-old Loganathan consumed pesticides on the night of July 20 and was being treated at the Government Hospital. He died last night, without responding to
treatment.

The widow and two daughters of the deceased, along with a few relatives, staged a protest at the Government Hospital and refused to receive the body and insisted that strict action be taken against Padmavathi, who drove Loganathan to kill himself.

The R.S. Puram police are investigating the matter.
