Coimbatore : A 30-year old man hailing from Dharmapuri district and reported missing for the last one week, was found dead hanging from a tree on the top of Vellingiri Hills on the outskirts.

According to police, Mahadevan, who used to visit annually the Vellingiri hills, had left his home a week ago, but not not returned.

Based on a complaint by his parents that there was no information about their son, police started an investigation and traced his location on Vellingiri hills through his mobile phone, they said.

Thousands of pilgrims used to throng the hills, believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva in
the month of August and also during Shivarathri, coming under Alandurai police station limits. Police with the assistance of Forest department officials searched for
Mahadevan and found the youth hanging dead from a branch on the 7th hill, late on Monday.

Police recovered a letter purportedly written by Mahadevan, which read Nobody is responsible for his death and he was leaving as God has
called him.

Heavy rains made it very difficult for bringing the body downhill.
